Because we all need more Survival Horror involving dinosaurs, Great Ape Games has waded into the suddenly crowded group of titles in development inspired by Dino Crisis. The Lost Wild is currently in development for PC via Steam, Epic Game Store, and GOG, and takes place in the wilderness of Japan.
A Japanese wilderness that has dinosaurs, that is. Oh, and to add some more tension, you won’t be able to outright kill them.
Taking inspiration from classic survival horror mainstays like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis (obviously), the team is also taking cues from the cult Jurassic Park title Trespasser, and throwing in some Alien: Isolation for good measure (hence the “unable to kill” mechanic). According to the devs, The Lost Wild will will utilize a systemic AI system to support its gameplay, while the team also aims to have its dinosaurs react and behave more like real animals.
Translation: the dinosaurs will adapt and have some intelligence behind them, but you can also scare them off to buy yourself some time to get away and plan your next move. How you do this includes the use of fire, weapons, and other equipment you find along the way.
While PC is the main focus, according to the official site’s FAQ, the team is also planning next-gen console versions in its roadmap. They won’t be using Kickstarter “at this time”.
Currently, there’s no release date, as the team “want to take our time and do things right”. Along with The Lost Wild, fans pining for a return to Dino Crisis-like games can also look forward to Goner, Deathground, Instinction, Compound Fracture, and even a fan-made remake of Dino Crisis.
