Lynchian-style horror gaming comes home next month when Headware Games’ throwback PS1 title Chasing Static arrives for PC via Steam on October 14. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch versions are expected later in 2022.
Accompanying the release date announcement is a new trailer, which continues the themes of 80s sci-fi horror and “contemporary surrealist cinema” that the devs are looking for when it comes to Chasing Static. The game will also incorporate “audio driven gameplay mechanics” to immerse players in its surreal world.
Taking place in the small town of Hearth in North Wales, players assume the role of Chris Selwood, who seeks refuge in a remote roadside café during a rainstorm. Unfortunately for Chris, he finds the café waitress pinned to the ceiling by some creature, which has him passing out and waking up shortly thereafter to the dusty old abandoned remains of the café. What follows is Chris exploring the remains of a mysterious facility, and trying to piece together what happened to the missing villagers of Hearth.
