New fantasy horror movie Triton is filming now in Athens, Greece. Per THR, the horror thriller has found its lead in “The Witcher” star Freya Allan.
Janell Shirtcliff directs the fantasy horror film that all but certainly draws from Greek mythology.
Triton will follow “three young women who, while in a vacation in Greece, run afoul of three charismatic young men who prove to be much more than they seem.”
Josh Whitehouse, Raff Law, Elsie Hewitt, Thalia Besson, and musician Malcolm McRae are also toplining the horror feature.
Triton is based off a story by Shirtcliff and Angie Simms, with Simms writing the script.
In Greek mythology, Triton was the son of gods Poseidon and Aphrodite, and is often depicted as a merman. So here’s to hoping that some aquatic horror makes its way into Triton. Killer mermen, perhaps?
Not much else is known about the fantasy horror project at this time, but Allan is on a roll in horror. Freya Allan, a breakout in the Netflix series “The Witcher”, is set to star in Baghead from Studiocanal. The horror film sees Allan face off against a mysterious witch in the basement and it’s set to arrive next month. The actor will also appear in next year’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, set to release on May 24, 2024.
Shirtcliff made her directorial debut with the Bella Thorne-Gavin Rossdale crime thriller Habit, which was released by Lionsgate.
Brad Feinstein at Romulus Entertainment is producing and financing. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Range are producing alongside Adonis Tountas and Everlast Pictures. Fred Berger and Casey Durant at Range are executive producing along with Ioannis Meramveliotakis. Alex O’Neal executive produces with his company 24FPS. Josh Glick and Zac Frognowski are also executive producing.
