“True Detective” is coming back to HBO for an upcoming fourth season with “True Detective: Night Country,” and Deadline brings us more casting news this week.
John Hawkes (Deadwood, Winter’s Bone), Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Finn Bennett (Domina) and Anna Lambe (Three Pines) have been set as leads, joining the previously announced Jodie Foster and boxer/actor Kali Reis.
Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid) is on board to write the brand new season.
Deadline details, “The series is centered around Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro who are looking to solve the case of six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanishing without a trace, when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska.
“The pair will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
Barry Jenkins (“The Underground Railroad”) is producing Season 4.
This will be the show’s first season without creator Nic Pizzolatto. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson return as executive producers, with Foster also exec producing.
“True Detective” premiered on HBO back in 2014, with the stellar first season being followed by second and third seasons that didn’t quite garner the same acclaim as that initial outing.
