TTRPG ‘The Time We Have’ Explores the Tragedy of a Zombie Apocalypse [Trailer]

Fans of the zombie genre know that situation involving characters coming to grips with someone they know being infected and waiting for the inevitable. We’ve seen it in films like Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later and Maggie, as well as in video games such as Undying. Now moreblueberries is taking that idea and bringing it to the tabletop RPG realm in its own unique twist with The Time We Have, which will have its BackerKit campaign go live on October 29.

The Time We Have is a two-player storytelling card game about what it means to be a brother—about all the complexity, vulnerability, and joy that comes with it. That “complexity, vulnerability and joy” comes to a head when one brother is infected, with you literally on one side of a closed door, and your brother on the other side. And the conversation turns to saying goodbye.

Players will take turns drawing cards, asking questions, and processing this change together. Once the door is closed, your story begins. In the end, it is up to the surviving brother to make the decision: Do you open the door?

The game provides all the tools you need to tell a compelling story in about 90 minutes, with three types of cards: Prompt Cards, where questions that are asked aloud; Perception Cards, where sounds, smells, and feelings are slid silently under the door; and Infection Cards, which changes to role play and signals of the end of a day in the story. There are also 10 “Door” cards to define the specifics of the zombie apocalypse around you, or you can define your own throughout play.

The campaign will be to have the full game of The Time We Have printed as a deck of 80 tarot-sized cards in a custom rigid box. If you’re keen on checking the game out before donating to the campaign, you can check out the demo via moreblueberries’ itch.io page.
