‘Until Dawn’ Remaster Arrives October 4 for PlayStation 5 and PC [Trailer]

With the brief reveal back during the Sony State of Play this past January, Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn remaster finally has a release date. The remaster, which was handled by developer Ballistic Moon, will come to PC via Steam and PlayStation 5 on October 4. And thanks to PlayStation Blog, we also have a comparison trailer showing off the various enhancements made to the game’s graphics.

“As a team of Until Dawn fans and horror lovers, our intention has not been to alter the events of that fateful night,” explains Neil McEwan, Creative Director at Ballistic Moon. “Instead, we have focused on giving the original game a cinematic update, offering the player a more intimate experience by enhancing the visual storytelling.”

The Until Dawn remaster has been “built from the ground up” using Unreal Engine 5, with updated character models, environments, interactable props, visual effects, and animations.

“One of our key visual improvements for Until Dawn has been around revisiting the character models and bringing them in line with modern advances in character modeling and rendering. Improvements to textures, materials, rendering and animation performance have all contributed to higher fidelity characters who we hope will resonate with both new players and existing fans of the game.”

In addition, the remaster will feature a combination of fixed and over-the-shoulder camera views, placing new emphasis on important moments and telling the story from a view closer to the characters. The Prologue has also received a bit of a rework to its narrative pacing, giving the Washingtons extra screen time “to explore their close family bond and get to know them a little better.”

Lastly, there are new totems to collect that hold “a different kind of vision to the others.” The original totems have also had their locations switched up to give veterans an excuse to collect them all over again.

Meanwhile, the Until Dawn film adaptation set to be directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation, Shazam) recently had a few cast additions, including Peter Stormare reprising his role from the game.
