With the Until Dawn remake hitting Steam and PlayStation 5 last Friday, things have gotten interesting. The new ending to the remake has been making its way around the net, featuring two post-credit sequences that allude to a potential sequel. That “potential sequel” for Until Dawn is apparently now a real thing, and it’s purportedly being worked on by Firesprite, developers of the sci-fi horror shooter The Persistence.
For starters, a fan uploaded the new ending to Until Dawn to the game’s unofficial subreddit. To avoid spoilers, the ending features the aforementioned post-credit sequences, which each hinting at the story continuing for two of the survivors. This in turn caught the attention of Nick Baker, the co-founder of Xbox Era, who took to X to say that he had heard that the now Sony-owned Firesprite are in the midst of developing the sequel.
Indeed, Firesprite had announced in March 2022 that they were hiring for a “AAA narrative driven horror-adventure game,” which would seem to match the likes of Until Dawn. However, no sequel has been announced as of yet, nor has Sony or Firesprite acknowledged any rumours.
This also brings into question what involvement–if any–original Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games will have if there is indeed a sequel being planned. Not to mention that the remake’s developer, Ballistic Moon, recently underwent layoffs ahead of the remake’s release.
Meanwhile, director David F. Sandberg recently took to Instagram to announce that filming had completed on the upcoming Until Dawn movie adaptation, which is scheduled for an October 2025 release.
