With Steam Next Fest kicking off today with a bunch of free demos for upcoming titles, Apogee and Trigger Happy Interactive are joining in with their upcoming Cyberpunk FPS, Turbo Overkill. The over-the-top shooter is still aiming for a release later this year on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
In case you missed our preview a few months back, Turbo Overkill draws inspiration from classic 90s shooters like Quake, Duke Nukem and Doom. You are Johnny Turbo, a “half-metal, half-human, half-crazy” cyborg armed (no pun intended) with hidden arm rockets and a chainsaw on your lower leg. Johnny returns to his hometown of Paradise and finds its entire population possessed by Syn, a rogue AI. Short on money to outrun his past, Johnny sets out to destroy Syn for the reward money. Unfortunately, he’ll have to take on a bunch of bounty hunters who are also in the hunt for that cash.
The demo contains three levels with plenty of goons to eviscerate, several secrets to discover, and over-the-top weapons to dish out the punishment. The final game will feature two dozen action-filled stages, along with more weapons and secrets that will no doubt tickle your retro glands.
Steam Next Fest runs from February 21st to the 28th. And don’t forget to check out demos this week for Scathe, Expedition Zero, and Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle.
