After being pushed all over the release calendar due to the pandemic, the Jared Leto-starring Morbius is finally sinking its fangs into the big screen on January 28, 2022.
You can watch the brand new official trailer below, which runs a whopping 3-minutes long and blends the horror of Dracula with the action-spectacle of a Marvel superhero movie.
Much like Venom, Morbius looks to be a comic book movie from a time gone by, not taking itself too seriously and just having a good bit of ’90s-style fun. And speaking of Venom, be sure to watch until the end for a fun little reference to Venom/Eddie Brock. Could we someday see Venom and Morbius share the big screen? As we’ve learned, anything is possible…
Sony’s latest Spider-Man spinoff centers on Michael Morbius, a scientist who, in trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transforms himself into a living vampire. Though disgusted by his own bloodlust, he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life.
Here’s the full official synopsis for next year’s movie…
“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius.
“Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”
Daniel Espinosa (Life) directed the film. Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless wrote the script.
