‘Video Killed The Radio Star’ – Luke Brandon Field and Harriet Cains Star in 1979-Set Horror Film

Filming is underway on Video Killed the Radio Star, a 1979-set horror film that draws inspiration from the classic song from The Buggles. Per Deadline, the film has found its stars in Luke Brandon Field (“Interview with the Vampire”) and Harriet Cains (“Bridgerton”).

Video Killed the Radio Star is directed by Brad Watson (I’ll Play Mother), written by Ben Charles Edwards (Quant) and Kirsty Bell (A Bird Flew In).

It follows “a pirate radio DJ (Field) who accidentally unleashes a demonic force during his broadcast, turning the station into a battleground for humanity. As the supernatural threat spreads through the airwaves, the DJ and his assistant (Cains) must confront the horrors they’ve unleashed.”

Like the song the film draws inspiration from, it’s expected to explore “how the rising popularity of 1980s music videos posed a threat to traditional radio broadcasts.”

The horror movie comes from recently launched genre outfit Dreamtown (previously known as The Number 44), a division of UK firm Goldfinch. Dreamtown co-founder Ben Charles Edwards told Deadline, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Luke Brandon Field and Harriet Cains headline Video Killed the Radio Star. Luke’s intensity and Harriet’s dynamic presence are perfect for bringing our characters to life.”

“Dreamtown has set out to deliver precisely what the market desires by offering unique and captivating angles in our storytelling. We couldn’t be more excited,” added Bell.

Production began on July 8 in London, so expect to hear a lot more about Video Killed the Radio Star in the coming months.
