With the original Mortal Kombat arcade game turning the big 3-0 later this year, what better way to celebrate than an in-depth look at the origins and making of the game? YouTube channel Splash Wave is here to answer that with a new entry in their series of documentaries.
The documentary covers the very beginnings of the game, where Midway was trying to one-up the competition in the arcade market by focusing on a new digitized graphics technique that turned video footage into digital images. From there, young developers Ed Boon and John Tobias were able to put their dream of creating a fighting game into motion.
The rest, they say, is history.
The real celebration for Mortal Kombat begins this October. Perhaps NetherRealm Studios will announce a new entry in the series? Or, will we finally get that long-rumoured remaster of the original trilogy? Heck, given the recent movie’s performance on HBO Max, could we get a sequel announced this year? Prepare yourself.
