Starbreeze surprised everyone back in 2004 with The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Not only was the game a wonderful blend of stealth action, sci-fi and horror, but it also bucked the trend of mediocre film-to-game adaptations. Its sequel, 2009’s Assault on Dark Athena, continued that trend, and even threw in a few more goodies.
Sadly, much like the film series that it’s based on, we still haven’t received another entry. To drive home that point, GVMERS has done their homework with their latest mini documentary covering the video games of The Chronicles of Riddick (including that deservedly forgotten mobile game). Tidbits include the original plan for the game to hit the PlayStation 2, how the game was nearly cancelled but saved at the eleventh hour, and of course, that long-rumoured MMO.
If you fancy turning back the clock, your best bet is to look on eBay for copies on the PlayStation 3 (for Dark Athena), Xbox and Xbox 360. GOG.com did have Butcher Bay and Dark Athena on their service for the PC, however those listings have now been dropped.
