Talk about a blast from the past. Before Gearbox and Sega’s 2013 shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, there was…Electronic Arts and Check Six’s Aliens: Colonial Marines for the PlayStation 2.
Obviously there’s some explaining. Check Six and EA were developing a game based on James Cameron’s Aliens back in the early 2000s. The game obviously never came out, and was totally separate from the Gearbox and Sega project that came about years later. Anyway, a YouTuber known as Mr. FO1 released what’s purported to be the Launch Trailer for the cancelled PS2 game, as well as having created a short documentary on the game itself.
Mr. FO1’s documentary on the cancelled project features input from a former dev as to why the project fell through. The short answer was Check Six’s game was crippled with bugs, and development was lagging, causing the game to be cancelled. Of course, as noted in the documentary, history repeats itself, as Gearbox’s game was also crippled with bugs, and had a turbulent development.
