What’s Old is New Again in Story Trailer for ‘Silent Hill 2’ Remake [Watch]

Konami and Bloober Team have unveiled the new story trailer for their upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake ahead of its October 8 release. Longtime fans of the Survival Horror classic get a reintroduction to several characters from the 2001 original, with the focus mainly being on Maria.

For those who haven’t played the original (you need to fix that), Silent Hill 2 concerns James Sunderland, who travels to the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife Mary, who had been suffering from an illness and died three years earlier. There, James meets Maria, a woman who strongly resembles Mary, but something is different about this woman…

Longtime fans will recognize familiar scenes in the trailer, which have been updated with modern graphics and new performances. New to the remake are locations and buildings that were inaccessible in the original, or have been newly added to the game.

The Silent Hill 2 remake moves from the original’s fixed-camera viewpoints to an over-the-shoulder perspective, putting players closer to what James sees, for a more immersive experience. Lastly, the remake also boasts a revamped combat system, allowing players to avoid attacks with dodges, the ability to aim down sights, and more.

Several outlets have also released hands-on previews of the remake, including IGN, GameSpot, and PlayStation Blog.

Silent Hill 2 will launch for PC via Steam and the PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are also available.
