We had been hearing rumblings about a potential TV series adaptation/expansion of Ron Howard‘s 1988 fantasy adventure film Willow for a long time, and as we learned last year, Disney+ had officially handed a series order to the project. Stephen Woolfenden will direct the pilot episode, which was written by Jonathan Kasdan (Solo), and filming is underway.
Warwick Davis is back as Willow Ufgood from the original movie, and Davis introduces the rest of the cast in a fun little featurette video shared during #DisneyPlusDay today.
“Willow” is coming to Disney+ in 2022. The series “will take place years after the events of the original film,” with Kasdan and Wendy Mericle (“Arrow”) as the showrunners.
“It introduces all-new characters to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters, and welcomes back its hero, Willow Ufgood, played once again by Warwick Davis.”
Ron Howard, the original film’s director, is producing the new series.
Forget what you know, or think you know, and meet the young(er) cast of Willow. The Original Series is streaming in 2022 on #DisneyPlus. #DisneyPlusDay pic.twitter.com/iUW7WpLd59
