The untitled sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife brings the ghosts back to theaters on December 20, 2023, we just learned last week, but what can we expect from the next movie?
On “Ghostbusters Day” last month, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan confirmed what the end credits of Ghostbusters: Afterlife hinted at – that the live action sequel will return to the original films’ New York City and Firehouse setting. That teaser also suggested that Ernie Hudson would be back as Winston Zeddemore, and indeed that does seem to be the case.
“The character of Winston Zeddemore and Zeddemore Industries figures strongly into the future of Ghostbusters,” Jason Reitman recently told The Hollywood Reporter.
The upcoming movie is said to be the “next chapter in the Spenger family story,” with Afterlife‘s post-credits scene suggesting that Winston is taking the new crew under his wing.
Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
The latest chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, made its theatrical debut in November 2021 and grossed over $200 million at the global box office.
A brand new animated series AND animated movie are also on the way, so Sony/Columbia Pictures are currently all-in on expanding the Ghostbusters Universe as much as possible.
