‘World War Z’ Director Marc Forster to Helm Adaptation Of Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Graveyard Book’ At Disney

Walt Disney Studio’s multiple attempts to create an adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s The Graveyard Book over the years is finally coming to fruition.

Disney acquired rights to the best-selling novel long ago, with multiple directors signing on then exiting over the years. Deadline reports that the adaptation is gearing up with World War Z director Marc Forster attached to direct.

The Graveyard Book tells the story of “Nobody “Bod” Owen, a young boy who is raised by the ghosts and supernatural beings of a graveyard – including, the graveyard’s caretaker Silas – after his family is murdered.”

The novel is a riff on Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, first published in 2008 and has won several prestigious literary awards, including the American Newberry Medal. Gaiman’s works also include previously adapted American Gods and Coraline, and The Sandman, which has been adapted into an upcoming Netflix series.

Forster’s producing partner Renée Wolfe will produce through their 2Dux2 banner along with Gil Netter. Ben Browning is also producing. David Magee (The School for Good and Evil) was recently tapped to adapt the script.

Disney, Forster and Wolfe previously worked together on the Winnie Pooh live-action pic, Christopher Robin, which 2Dux2 also produced.
